Officials say the plane was flying from Brooksville to Cedar Key, scheduled to land by noon on Sunday.

The U.S. Coast Guard is searching for a small plane the failed to show up at it destination along Florida's Gulf coast.

The plane's last known radar contact occurred at 11:06 a.m., when the plane was about seven miles south of Cedar Key. Coast guard watch standers from Sector St. Petersburg were notified around 5:21 p.m. about the missing plane and its three passengers.

"They battled fog overnight, but unfortunately, Mother Nature made it very hard for us to see the surface of the ocean from the air", St. Petersburg Coast Guard Commander Randall Brown said at a Monday morning news conference. An overnight search proved fruitless, officials said. The pilot did not file a fight plan, the guard noted.

Crews from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Levy County Fire and Rescue and Cedar Key Fire and Rescue assisted in the search.
