Woman shot in Penang not related to triads

The 49-year-old woman who was shot dead at Taman Pekaka here yesterday, was not pregnant and neither was she involved in organised crime.

The victim, in her 40s, is believed to have died from gunshot injuries in a close-range shooting as several bullet holes were found on the windows of her auto.

He said police were investigating all aspects including her business as well as the business activities of her husband who he confirmed as operating an entertainment outlet in Datuk Keramat.

Meanwhile, The Star Online reported that family members of the businesswoman claimed her body at the Penang Hospital mortuary today.

Her attackers approached her auto at Jalan Pekaka on a motorcycle before the pillion rider fired 10 shots into her white BMW and sped off.

"I would like to stress that based on the report by my officers, she was not pregnant".

Her auto crashed into another vehicle, swerved into Lintang Pekaka 9 before coming to stop when it crashed into a culvert.

Zainol elaborated that two men on a motorcycle approached the white BMW and the pillion rider opened fire - 10 shots were fired and six of them penetrated the chest. She was also not the wife of any gangster as far as we know; Yhe incident is not related to any gangland activity.

Penang Police chief Chuah Ghee Tye said the new leads would enable police to identify the suspects but did not elaborate further.

The speeding BMW indicates that the woman still had her foot on the accelerator even after she was shot.
