Security guard killed at Central Texas Subway sandwich shop

Killeen police officers are investigating an early-morning shooting that left a security guard dead Sunday.

According to a new release issued by the Killeen Police Department, officers responded to a Subway restaurant at 1100 Old Farm-to-Market 440 at 3:42 a.m. Sunday, after receiving a call about a robbery. The victim was transported to Baylor Scott & White Hospital in critical condition.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect entered the restaurant wearing a ski mask.

Words were exchanged between the two but police say that during the argument the security guard was shot.

The security officer was identified by Killeen City Councilmember Gregory Johnson as security officer William Petty.

There were a few customers and employees in the restaurant but no other injuries were reported.

No one else was injured.
