Cleveland Browns make a smart, surprising trade for Brock Osweiler

They traded Brock Osweiler and his $37 million dollars of guaranteed money, a second round pick in 2018 and a sixth round pick in 2017.

The Browns also are considering just cutting Osweiler immediately, as often happens in National Basketball Association salary dumps, being that they have so much space to work with.

Cleveland - The Browns found a franchise quarterback, just maybe not their own.

Are the Browns Going to Trade Brock Osweiler Again? Although this was too much for the Texans to spend on Bouye this year, they'll still need to look to the draft or to free agency to fill the void at cornerback.

For the Browns, while other picks were involved, it ultimately comes down to this: they are spending $16 million of their almost $100 million in cap space for a second-round draft pick.

"We're really excited to acquire a second-round draft choice in this trade", Brown said. It will sound more reasonable when you hear that Houston saved $16 million in cash and $10 million in cap space. He was named the Week 1 starter in 2016 but broke his left shoulder on a scramble in the season-opening loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

At the start of the new National Football League year, the Cleveland Browns made one of the most unexpected and shocking deals in recent history. The only quarterbacks on the roster are Cody Kessler - who led the team in passing as a rookie with 1,380 yards - Kevin Hogan and Osweiler.

Griffin signed a front-loaded two-year deal with the Browns after his visit with the Jets.

There is more cap space to go around than there are players to earn it, at least for now, because teams don't want to set precedent by giving average players top dollar for the sake of using up cap space.

The Browns are - and have been - Garoppolo's biggest suitor, and for good reason: Cleveland doesn't have the best track record when it comes to drafting quarterbacks in the first round. It's why they signed Robert Griffin III last offseason, and when that didn't work out, it's why they traded for Brock Osweiler earlier this week (right before they released RG3). Soon, Osweiler will be gone, and one or two new names will be added to the list.

Osweiler, 26, was abysmal in Houston last season, completing only 59 percent of his passes and posting a QB rating of 72.2.
