White House press secretary Sean Spicer on Monday referred to Trump's former national security adviser, Michael Flynn, as a "volunteer of the campaign".

Below are the four craziest moments from Monday's descent into Spice World, an alternative fact political universe with ever-changing rules.

"There's been a discussion of Paul Manafort, who played a very limited role for a very limited amount of time", said Spicer, who clarified that Trump stands by earlier claims that he wasn't aware of contact between campaign officials and Russian Federation during the election.

Manafort was promoted in May to campaign chairman and chief strategist.

In a letter to the Senate intelligence committee, Page, who has emerged as a key figure in the controversy surrounding Trump associates' connections to Russian Federation, cast himself as a regular presence in Trump Tower, where the campaign was headquartered. As power centers within the Trump campaign in August began to shift away from him to Breitbart News chief Steve Bannon as campaign CEO and Kellyanne Conway as campaign manager, the former lobbyist stepped down from his campaign. Even Stalin was more subtle when he airbrushed Nikolai Yezhov out of existence.

"There is a fine line between people who want to be part of something that they never had an official role in and people who actually played a role in either the campaign or the transition", he said.

Before the Comey hearing, Trump attempted to divert attention from his own campaign's relationship with Russia by claiming on Twitter that Hillary Clinton's campaign also had contact with the Russian government.

There is a whole second set of concerns here in terms of what was Hillary Clinton's role. What are we doing to look into that? "Hey, Jonathan, somebody's asking a question".

Trump, who just eight weeks into office has already made 10 trips to green, was a repeated and vicious critic of his predecessor's penchant for playing the game - but the criticism shouldn't apply to the current White House occupant because he uses the game to "help USA interests".

Spicer explained that Trump's golf games are different than former President Barack Obama's - which Trump repeatedly criticized - because of how Trump manages to "use the game of golf" to "help USA interests". "I'm not going to have time to go play golf". He did not provide other examples.
