The Dallas Cowboys re-signed Kellen Moore on Monday to address the team's backup quarterback situation for the 2017 season.

The 27-year-old went on to start the next two games and finished the year 61-of-104 for 779 yards, four touchdowns and six interceptions.

Moore signed with the Detroit Lions as an undrafted free agent in 2012 following a record-setting career at Boise State. He was of course slated to be the backup for Tony Romo past year, ahead of Dak Prescott, until everything went sideways in the offseason and preseason, when both Moore and Romo were lost to injury. After Romo was hurt three weeks later, rookie Dak Prescott stepped in as the starter and led Dallas to a 13-3 mark in the regular season. With Tony Romo sidelined due to an injury, Moore replaced backup quarterback Matt Cassel during a Week 15 loss to the New York Jets.

The Cowboys have also investigated other quarterbacks, including Josh McCown. "Kellen is the key here", Jones said.

The #Cowboys re-signed QB Kellen Moore, adding depth to their QB room. Romo's company, Fan Expo LLC, claimed the National Football League threatened players with suspensions if they participated in Las Vegas in 2015. "Kellen would satisfy that itch".

While terms of the deal were not disclosed, CBS Sports reports Moore will earn $775,000 in base salary and bonuses and count $615,000 against the team's salary cap. "He fits here real well".
