Three-time victor Taylor joins Gatorade Mississippi Girls Basketball Players of the Year Victoria Vivians (2013-14 & 2011-12, Scott Central High), Christa Reed (2012-13, Bay High), Krista Donald (2010-11, Lake High), Valencia McFarland (2009-10 & 2008-09, Raymond High), and April Sykes (2007-08 & 2006-07, East Oktibbeha County High) among the state's list of former award winners.

The Gatorade Company announced Jared Ridder of Kickapoo High School as its 2016-17 Gatorade Missouri Boys Basketball Player of the Year. Cartwright is now eligible for the national award.

The 6-foot-7, 195-pound senior guard and forward led the Lakers to a 24-1 record and a No. 2 ranking in the USA TODAY High School Sports Expert Rankings.

Hladky averaged 23.3 points, 4.1 assists and 2.5 rebounds per game for the Camels while also shooting 43 percent from 3-point range.

"Cartwright is a great shooter with a quick trigger, and he makes a lot of tough shots", said Travis Engebretson, head coach at Brookings High. He hasn't yet decided where he will be attending college.

The Vermont victor for girls' basketball was Sadie Stetson of St. Johnsbury Academy.

He is the school's first Mr. Basketball victor and its first Gatorade Player of the Year recipient. Every Gatorade Player of the Year state victor receives a $1,000 grant to donate and will have the opportunity to enter for an additional $10,000 spotlight grant by writing a brief essay explaining why their selected organization deserves additional support.
