A man has been arrested on suspicion of stealing a charity box intending to raise money for five-year-old cancer sufferer Bradley Lowery.

The box was taken from The Lunch Box cafe on Yoden Road, Peterlee, on Sunday.

Durham Police confirmed it has retrieved the money for the young Sunderland fan and that a man has been arrested and will be questioned later. "@Bradleysfight. Keep fighting buddy".

Bradley, five, from Blackhall Colliery near Hartlepool, was diagnosed with neuroblastoma in 2013.

In July 2016 he relapsed, and his family is now raising money to send him overseas for specialist treatment not available in the UK.

He has also been selected to lead England out in their World Cup qualifier against Lithuania.
