They think Microsoft's going to announce the laptop by the end of March or April 2017. However, it may trade its current design for a more traditional laptop clamshell design. The entry-level model of the original Surface Book was priced $1,499 although it is now being offered at a discounted price of $1,299. Microsoft will also stick with high quality materials in the construction of the Surface Book 2-like its predecessor, the Surface Book 2 will be constructed from a magnesium aluminum alloy. A new report indicates that Microsoft might soon announce the next-gen Surface Book laptop, complete with one design change we didn't really see coming. This is interesting as the brand has always stressed on the new type of computing devices with Surface Pro lineup and even with Surface Book. Also, the 2-in-1 or "detachable" design of the Surface Book conflicts with the Surface Pro product line, according to the report. Though magnetic as well, the current Surface Pen is only powered by a single AAAA battery. To take the agenda even further, ZDNet reported past year that the Creators Update was delayed to spring 2017 to support "a new wave of Microsoft-branded Windows devices".

When Microsoft launched the Surface Book back in 2015, one of its key features was its detachable display (or the detachable keyboard depending on how you want to describe it). That, however, may have backfired as consumers supposedly had problems differentiating and choosing between the Surface Pro 4 tablet and the Surface Book laptop.

According to DigiTimes, The Surface Book 2 entered mass production just recently, and Microsoft expects shipments to increase every month.

Microsoft reportedly only sold half a million Surface Books in 2016 and this was caused by a the "catch 22" scenario of limited demand propping up prices by throttling any significant benefits that could have been harvested from production scaling.

The Surface Pro 5 is expected to come in two display variants, 2K and 4K resolution.

Microsoft Surface Phone is reported to be suffering a huge delay in favor of a new phone. As a result of using a more traditional design, the engineering will be simpler.
