The Spurs manager even joked he could imagine moving Alli all the way around the pitch if he had to.

Ryan Bertrand can play both left-back and left wing-back and has started a Champions League final, making the 27-year-old a more suitable deputy for Danny Rose than Ben Davies, while Virgil van Dijk would be the ideal centre-half to spark competition in Pochettino's three-man defence. Sometimes things happen and you have to learn from them but I always want to win. "Maybe one day he will play like a goalkeeper or a centre back or fullback".

Spurs started quickly again against Southampton, Christian Eriksen opening the scoring after 13 minutes before Alli's penalty. It's all possible with him.

"He will now have the possibility to play more and be more involved", Pochettino said. Into the box he looks like a striker because he is more than clever, he is very smart.

"If the manager wants to push me a bit higher in some games I'm happy to do that but I am a midfielder so I enjoy playing everywhere".

"We made it hard for ourselves but I think it showed the maturity".

Southampton boss Claude Puel will choose from an unchanged squad. "I can not see the difference".

Alli scored for a fourth successive game with a first-half penalty awarded after he had been upended by Steven Davis to take his season's tally to 17 goals.

Son sliced wide as Tottenham went back on the offensive, while Lloris gathered Shane Long's rising strike at the other end.

"He [Pochettino] knows that's who I am. Shane was ready and could play". "Now we break for the internationals, then we have many games in April, so we need to be ready for that". It was a odd game, unusual first half.

Southampton's Maya Yoshida has praised his side's second half display against Tottenham, but has rued the opening half which cost them in their 2-1 defeat. It is dfficult to accept the second goal. "The players are good enough to substitute (Harry Kane's goals) so obviously it was important for someone else to score", Eriksen said.

"We did not find a clinical edge to finish the situation".

The Tottenham Hotspur teenager will be hoping to following in the footsteps of Harry Winks and Josh Onomah.
