The closest stores to D.C. that will close are in Easton, Maryland; Roanoke, Virginia; and in Christiansburg, Virginia, south of Roanoke, according to the list released by J.C. Penney. The company had about 105,000 full and part-time employees a year ago.

Nine stores will close in Texas, the most of any state.

J.C. Penney store locations at the King of Prussia Mall, the Philadelphia Mills Mall, and at Willow Grove Park will all be shut down possibly as soon as June, the company said.

That class will help employees with writing resumes, filling out applications, answering interview questions and more.

Macy's has identified 68 of the 100 stores it plans to close. J.C. Penney says liquidation sales will begin on April 17. Some J.C. Penney employees, the company's "esteemed leaders", may be able to find new positions within the company. That company has filed for bankruptcy and is closing a total of 552 stores.

J.C. Penney has listed the 138 locations it will shutter in the coming months as the retailer seeks to cut costs and improve its profitability.

Meanwhile, another "store closing" sign also went up in Pendleton last week - Radio Shack in Melanie Square.
