Rajon Rondo: Ray Allen not invited to celebrate 2008 Celtics championship

Bulls point guard Rajon Rondo is busy planning a reunion of the 2007-08 Celtics at an undisclosed location overseas this summer, but shooting guard Ray Allen, who averaged 17.4 points per game for the team that won Boston's first National Basketball Association title in 22 years, won't be receiving an invite.

"It will be a long story about that, but it is what it is", Rondo said. "I got a no, a no head shake", he said.

Grudges apparently don't die easily in the National Basketball Association.

The Celtics won their last National Basketball Association title in 2008. A month later, Boston acquired Kevin Garnett in a blockbuster deal with the Timberwolves. Kevin Garnett wasn't happy with Allen leaving in 2012 and Paul Pierce said it felt like a "betrayal" as recently as previous year, so it's not likely that either of them will be pushing Rondo to extend the olive branch to Allen for this trip.

Of course, Ray Allen was a critical member of that championship team, averaging more than 17 points per game en route to an National Basketball Association title but he signed a three-year deal with the Heat in 2012 and apparently has not been forgiven for this act of betrayal. On the other, it's easy to understand why Rondo in particular is upset: It's a lot harder to hunt easy assists while coasting on the achievements of your superior teammates when one of those superior teammates decides to leave. I don't know a good analogy to put this in.

"It just wasn't the greatest separation", Rondo said. It wasn't the greatest thing that could've happened to us as a team, a bond.

"We were at war with those guys (Miami)", Rondo told Spears. "To go with the enemy, that's unheard of in sports". Well, it's not so unheard of. "It's damn near common now", Rondo explained. Pierce did not comment on this situation but past year described Allen's departure to Miami as "betrayal".

"It was a weird relationship", Pierce said. "That's why the whole thing evolved like it did with us not talking to him". Even when we were playing together, we'd be having a team dinner and Ray wouldn't show up.

"I tried to call him and I didn't get any return calls before he signed with Miami".

But when asked by the Undefeated if Allen was going to be included in the celebration planned for this summer, Rondo said: "I asked a couple of the guys".

However, with most situations involving Rondo, there's some drama attached.
