Where does SC rank among Duke's ugliest NCAA tournament losses ever?

Now third-seeded Baylor (27-7) is the highest remaining seed entering a matchup with seventh-seeded SC (24-10), which is in the Sweet 16 for the first time after hanging 65 second-half points on the preseason No. 1-ranked Blue Devils in Sunday's 88-81 upset.

USC shot 71 percent from the floor during those last 20 minutes of gametime.

"I don't think it really hit me yet", said SC sophomore guard PJ Dozier. That set the stage for a matchup with No. 2 Duke.

Justin Jackson added 15 points for the Tar Heels (29-7), including the dunk that capped a game-closing 12-0 run by the South Region's No. 1 seed to help it survive a wild game.

The University of SC men's basketball team had a historic weekend at the NCAA tournament in Greenville.

"I'm disappointed that we didn't win tonight", he said, "But at the end of the season, I want my guys to either be crying because we've lost or crying because we've just won".

"I was thinking we could get the win", Mount St. Mary's Elijah Long said.

As it were, Arkansas, Florida, Kentucky and SC gave the SEC its most second-round teams since 2007.

The Blue Devils did not make a basket after Matt Jones' 3-pointer with 5:38 to play, their only points coming on Allen's foul shots in the final minute before the break.

Wilson scored 21 points and had 11 rebounds, including the put back that gave SC the lead for good and the free throws that sealed it, as SC (29-4) beat No. 8 seed Arizona State 71-68 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday night.

"It was actually the most physical game we've played in all year", Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski said. IN fired head coach Tom Crean, because they have unrealistic expectations and should have taken the red and white glasses off to realize that Crean had to deal with many injuries this year.

"When you shoot 7 for 35 in the first half and you're down just 7 points, I tell you, it just gives you confidence", Sindarius Thornwell, 22, a SC player said.

Duke, which averaged eight 3-pointers a game this season, hit 10 in the opening half to quickly pull away from the Trojans.

Meanwhile, South Carolina just gained a bunch of fans.

On Duke's side, Grayson Allen led with 20 points, and Luke Kennard was surprisingly held in check. Felder canned a triple from National Basketball Association distance, Silva laid one in and was fouled.

Duke: The Blue Devils at times appeared rudderless in their first - and now, only - game without Lambert.

"The time on the clock, it felt like an eternity was going by", Notice said. We're not going to go into the game and say "Hey, let's slow it down.' I think we understand what a quality possession offensively looks like".

Even though the Blue Devils held opponents to 70 points or fewer seven times since February 4, Duke ranked below 14 of the other 15 top-four seeds in the NCAA tournament in adjusted defensive efficiency.

Indeed, that echoed a telling comment made by Krzyzewski as the Blue Devils began practice in October after Giles' knee surgery. "We fought all the way through, but their defense gets to you. But it's really just another tough game for us". And then we were in a lot of foul trouble. "It's just when you come in, my job is to give energy. And I think we proved that", Turner Thorne said. It gave up 51 second-half points, but it lived up to its defensive reputation by holding the Blue Devils to 41.5 percent shooting from the field and forcing 18 turnovers.

"Yeah, absolutely", Martin said. But Frank Martin must have done something during halftime because the team came out playing like men on fire during the second half.

"We just made shots, got the ball inside", Thornwell said.
