In the end, Golovkin was awarded to the decision win with two judges scoring the contest 115-112 and the other seeing the fight 114-113. Chocolatito landed 56.4% of his power punches and more punches in 10 of the 12 rounds but the judges - Glenn Feldman and Julie Lederman scored it 114-112 in favor of Sor Rungvisai while Waleska Roldan scored it a draw-saw it differently.

"Daniel was sick, but right now he is a great boxer", Golovkin said.

Compubox showed Golovkin landing 233-of-618 attempted punches for a 38% connect rate while crediting Jacobs with 176-of-542 of thrown punches for a 32% rate of landing.

According to The Telegraph, Gennady Golovkin wants his next fight to be in his home country of Kazakhstan against Billy Joe Saunders. It just so happened with the fight potentially on the line in the 12th, Golovkin closed better.

Having scored 23 straight stoppages, Golovkin was forced to go the scheduled distance for the first time since 2008. However, after switching to southpaw, Jacobs ate two right hands that dropped him in Round 4.

Round 4 is seconds old when GGG made a decision to finally throw a power shot and he knocks down Jacobs (with a bit of a shove in there too). Jacobs periodically switched to a left-handed style before closing with a flourish, putting himself firmly in the mix for another go with Golovkin. Golovkin also didn't appear to be as sharp as usual. Fellow fighters took to Twitter to take their shots at GGG.

He won the round on two of the three cards but it wasn't enough.

"I'm really proud of myself that I went in there and gave it all had", said the Brooklyn, N.Y., fighter, who overcame a rare bone cancer that was diagnosed in 2011. But Jacobs' showed well against an opponent so feared and avoided and marginalized throughout his ascent from YouTube curiosity to world middleweight champion that it was thought he might never get a big fight.

"Daniel, he's my favorite fighter, he's very good fighter", Golovkin said. "I need quality fights!"

With advantages in size and speed, as well as enough power to make him - on paper - the most risky opponent of Golovkin's career, Jacobs got up off the canvas from a fourth-round knockdown and kept coming.

But even though he floored Daniel Jacobs in the fourth round of their middleweight title unification bout Saturday night at Madison Square Garden, there was Jacobs still on his feet and exulting at full throat after ending the 11th round with a flurry of power punches that had a full house of 19,939 fans roaring with him. I knew I had to go out there, fight the best, and earn my respect. It definitely wasn't a boring fight.

We don't know what's next for Jacobs if he's unable to get a rematch. Perhaps now they will be interested in stepping up to the plate to see what the middleweight champion has to offer.
