Sen. Edward Markey is calling on President Donald Trump to engage in direct negotiations with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un as part of a proposed joint effort with China to reduce North Korea's nuclear threat.

Although China's state media went strong on photos and coverage of the Xi-Trump summit, it gave little space to news of the strikes against Syria, with few editorials or commentaries. Trump accepted an invitation for a state visit to China this year.

During the meetings, Trump highlighted the challenges caused by the Chinese government intervention in its economy and raised serious concerns about the impact of China's industrial, agricultural, technology and cyber policies on America's jobs and exports, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said. Pyongyang's nuclear capabilities, catching up with its ambitions test after test, will require China to use all its powers of persuasion over the recalcitrant state.

Trump spoke publicly of progress on a range of issues in his first U.S.

Trump's grandchildren, Arabella and her brother Joseph were seen singing a Chinese folk song "Jasmine" and reciting verses from the "Three-Character Classics" as well as Tang dynasty poems to the two presidents in the video, while Melania Trump, Ivanka Trump, Jared Kushner and the others listened to the children's performance.

As for the leader of China, he said he was greeted warmly by the Trump administration.

But on the other side of the coin, you know, US entanglements in the Middle East have been pretty good for China because they take Washington's, you know, focus away from Beijing and allow China to get on with what they want to do - build their economy free from interference from the USA, expand their influence in the East China and South China Sea, build their military up.

China and the U.S. agreed to facilitate the healthy development of two-way trade and investment, to advance negotiations on a bilateral investment treaty and to promote pragmatic cooperation in infrastructure and other areas, Wang said.

And the Chinese leader has plans to reciprocate the American hospitality, according to the official news agency Xinhua, which reported that Xi invited Trump to a state visit in China later this year.

"If the businessmen-turned-US-officials thought that they would frighten us, they would soon recognise that their method would not work".

To boost bilateral ties, Xi underlined the importance of further enhancing economic, military and law enforcement cooperation and people-to-people exchanges.

Pentagon sources on Saturday told CNN that US Pacific Command chief Admiral Harry B. Harris Jr. has ordered the Nimitz-class supercarrier and all its support ships towards the Korean peninsula. After their first face-to-face at the Mar-a-Lago resort, he trumpeted they had developed an "outstanding" relationship. But growth has slowed, and if Trump's protectionist stance is to be directed at China, the world's most populous country would be stripped of a means to earn foreign currency.

Kim added the two sides agreed "an even stronger United Nations resolution" will have to be adopted in the event of additional weapons test by North Korea.

The question then arises as to what impact the U.S. president's willingness to exercise his military muscle may have on China's thinking. -China relationship and burnishing his foreign policy credentials than achieving a breakthrough.
