Chris Sale strikes out 12 in first win for Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox first baseman has been turning heads after doubling in seven consecutive games to break the franchise record, but he snapped that streak Friday after going 0-for-4 in Boston's 10-5 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays. Materia rescued Sdoia after the explosions and the couple are now engaged to be married. He struck out Rickie Weeks and Norris, both on curveballs, to start the inning before getting Logan Morrison to ground out and end the game and give the Red Sox the 2-1 win.

The Rays joined the rest of Major League Baseball in paying tribute to Jackie Robinson on Saturday by all wearing his No. 42.

Moreland homered and had three hits in the win - the homer was just the fifth for the Red Sox (6-5) in 11 games. "And you've always got to know that no matter what the score is, we're always in the game". "I look forward to the challenge".

Boston acquired the 6-foot-6 left-hander from the White Sox for four prospects during the offseason. That would give the Red Sox five on the season.

That the game ended up decided on that close of a play was frustrating but also fitting, indicative of the battle the Rays gave.

Heading into the weekend, Chris Dickerson had the hot hand for the Rays with 13 hits, four runs and five RBI. Just a combination of things, but (yesterday) they run four different pitchers at us, nobody can really settle into any kind of rhythm against a given guy.

In each of Sale's three starts the Red Sox have done very little offensively, collecting only three total runs. He did all of his between-starts running, weightlifting and throwing with no issues, warmed up fine Saturday and worked a pretty good first inning.

"He's worth the price of admission just to see him", manager John Farrell said after his team improved to 6-5. And let's face it, three starts he's made for us, he's not had any margin of error.

Two walks, uncharacteristic of Porcello, and a single loaded the bases for Morris in the third, and he hit the first slam of his career.

But the spirit they showed in staying in the game, from the tremendous effort of Erasmo Ramirez and the rest of the bullpen to the chances they created - even though they didn't cash in - was a promising sign of the fight, after splitting their first 12 games despite a slew of injuries, they can put up for the next 150. "I expected he was going to swing at the first one". After striking out Peter Bourjos, Evan Longoria came through with a single through the middle and just like that the game was tied.

Reds 7, Brewers 5: Jesse Winker doubled in the go-ahead runs with his first big league hit, and Cincy overcame two more homers by Eric Thames.

"Generally when you lose a guy like that, those games can spiral out of control", Cash said. "I haven't had any setbacks yet", he said. He finished the day retiring the final 10 straight batters he faced.

There was a moment of reflection before the game, marking the fourth anniversary of the Boston Marathon bombings.

This time the formula resulted in a 2-1 Fenway Park win over the Rays. The Rays made quick work of the defending AL Cy Young victor after Brad Miller and Steve Souza went back-to-back in the fifth inning, which ended Porcello's night.
