Several factors aggravated the air-travel headaches.

Stormy weather in the northeast also contributed to some of the snowballing of flight cancellations.

Spokesman Michael Thomas told CNN cancellations scheduled for Monday were down to single-digit status. Separately, a statement from Delta said more cancellations are "possible".

"I would have to think that the value of all of the free publicity greatly exceeds the cost of the pizzas, " he said.
