17-year-old attacked by shark at WA beach

A teenage girl has died today after being attacked by a shark approximately three kilometres east of Wylie Bay in Western Australia.

The victim, a 17-year-old girl, was in a critical condition at the scene when ambulances arrived.

Police said the girl was attacked while she surfed with her father at Kelp Beds Beach, east of Wylie Bay, around 4pm AWST.

It is believed that the girl sustained serious injuries to her leg, however, details of her death are not yet known.

Surfer Sean Pollard was attacked at Wylie Bay - eight kilometers from Monday's attack - in 2014.

A teenager has been attacked by a shark in Esperance on Monday.

She was taken from the water and transported to Esperance Hospital, where she was listed as critical. One medium-sized shark was spotted 150m off shore at Esperance and another was spotted 300m off Crazies Reef.
