While the addition of the single-player campaign is an encouraging sign for fans of the franchise, it's the multiplayer where the core Battlefront experience lies, and that's why it's so important that the DLC release structure is done right.

Star Wars Battlefront - Rogue One: Scarif Trailer - 12/02/2016 12:27 PMDICE released the new Star Wars Battlefront Rogue One: Scarif Official Trailer, ahead of the fourth and final expansion pack launching for Season Pass members on December 6. With no single-player campaign, and a mere four planets to battle on, the game initially felt like a slightly extended demo.

Creative director Bernd Diemer recently spoke with mashable about the game, where he revealed that they "don't have a season pass". "We don't want to segment our community", he said with regard to why the team opted to forgo a season pass. "We decided on that, and it's one of those hard decisions because it has so many implications all around", he explained.

All pre-orders get the exclusive Star Wars: The Last Jedi-themed looks for Kylo Ren and Rey, ability modifiers that give players the power to change the course of the battle, and deluxe edition buyers also get three days of early access. We know they want more depth, more progression, and more content. "We need to come up with something better". For this type of game, season passes are not the best thing.

Given how much effort EA is putting into Battlefront 2, I would imagine server browsers would be a big priority, but it all just depends how far the publisher is willing to go.

Star Wars Battlefront II hits PC, Xbox One, and PS4 on November 17.

Another EA game in Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare embraced a system whereby the community wasn't divided by whether it had DLC or not.
