Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan has stoked another controversy by asking Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to reinstate "sati pratha", an obsolete Hindu tradition where a widow immolated herself on her husband's pyre, before banning triple talaq in the state.

"These days, there is a new raging debate in the country". He had said that those remaining silent are equally responsible as those practising the age-old tradition.

" one was able to utter even a single word".

In his address to the BJP national executive, Modi said there should not be any "conflict" in the Muslim community over this issue. According to the sources in the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), the members fear that agreeing to any change on triple talaq would open floodgate of interference in other Sharia matters.

AIMPLB general secretary Maulana Wali Rehmani had yesterday said that the board had chose to issue a code of conduct and warned that those who give "talaq" (divorce) without following the "Sharia" (Islamic law) will face social boycott.

"Chandra Shekhar had a clear understanding of the Common Civil Code".

Praising Chandrashekhar as a "true Socialist", Mr. Adityanath said,"His ideology was not as important to him as his country. Politics should be done within the limits of the nation and constitution". "And, then no one will dare to take law into their own hand", he said.

"He (Modi) talked about social justice".

Covered by a hijab, the unnamed Muslim woman, creating a scene at Kichha police, said, "What is the use of spending whole life with a man who can at any point of time desert his wife by saying Talaq, Talaq, Talaq?" He equated the silence over triple talaq to that displayed by the elders present in the court during Draupadi's humiliation in the epic.

Adityanath's recent remarks about triple talaq have also stirred a positive storm in the state.
