Mohun Bagan dented their chances of advancing to the next stage of the Asian Football Confederation Cup after losing for the second time in the group stages, as a 10-man Maziya Sports & Recreation beat them 1-0 in a Group E tie at the Rabindra Sarovar Stadium in Kolkata April 19. This was Mohun Bagan first loss at home in all competitions this term. One of the most consistent performers for club and country over the last three seasons, Jeje will be looking at any game time he gets as an audition to get the starting slot ahead of Balwant Singh for the I-League game in Aizawl over the weekend, with both Indian forwards often alternating starts alongside Scotsman and season's top scorer Darryl Duffy.

With an eye towards Saturday's potential I-League title decider against Aizawl FC, Mohun Bagan rested several of their first choice players, and paid the price. Katsumi Yusa came on in the 73rd minute, 10 minutes after Raju Gaikwad who played right-back instead of his usual position on the left of the defence.

Mohamed Umair scored the victor for the Maldives club in the 34th minute against the run of play to hand them their second win from three matches and climb to second place behind Bengaluru FC with six points.

After that they won the I-League derby against East Bengal 2-1, drew against Shillong Lajong 1-1 before pipping Minerva by a solitary goal in the last round to maintain their unbeaten run in five matches across tournaments. Maziya are second with six.

Against the run of play, Maziya took the lead through Umair who capitalized on a loose ball inside the box to fire an angular effort at the far post.

Mohun Bagan have one more home game remaining in the AFC Cup.

On either side of that effort, Mohun Bagan pressured the visiting team using the width of the field.

Umair pounced on the chance after the Bagan defenders lowered their guard, allowing the nippy Maziya attacker access into their territory.

The tourists had a chance to double their margin soon after half-time with Yasfaadh Habeeb heading just over the bar from skipper Abdulla Asadhulla's cross.
