Tottenham are also keen to agree a new contract with Alderweireld, after reaching similar deals with almost all their key players since the start of 2016.

Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has refused to accept losing key stars.

Tottenham have absolutely no reason to sell their best centre-back which is why, when asked about it at his press conference this afternoon, Pochettino laughed off the suggestion that he might leave.

"All the players have contracts for the next two, three years", said Pochettino. He tried to describe his philosophy of football, the way he wants to play, the way he wants the team to work.

But the 28-year-old, who is tied to the club until 2019, has told London's Evening Standard: "When I signed, it was for a number of years and I am very pleased with how things are going now. I could talk a lot about him but this is not the right place".

Pochettino's men came up short in their hunt for the Premier League title last season, and must hope for a monumental slip-up from leaders Chelsea if they are to lift their first league trophy since 1961, a team they also face in their FA Cup semi-final on Saturday. We want to become better.

Lloris believes Spurs are on the road to becoming a "big institution" but said this transformation could not happen overnight, and pointed to the club's failure to qualify from the Champions League group stage as an example of their learning curve. When you have a chance, you have to take it. It was the case 50 years ago, it was the case 20 years ago and it will be the case in a few years. I invite all the clubs that want a player form Tottenham to come to the training ground and speak to Daniel Levy.

'Even like this season in the Champions League it was a failure, but we need to go through this kind of moment to improve.
