A flawless day for Spurs took another positive turn when Mauricio Pochettino gave the fit-again Kane 30 minutes of action at the end of the match, and the striker had the chance to mark his return with a goal 10 minutes after his introduction when he latched on to a pass from Trippier and rounded the keeper, only to see his tame finish cleared by the defence.

Watford's last win against Tottenham in any competition was a 3-2 League Cup triumph at White Hart Lane in 1994, although they lost 8-6 on aggregate.

Tottenham's Dele Alli celebrates after scoring a goal during the English Premier League soccer match between Tottenham Hotspur and Watford at White Hart Lane in London, Saturday April 8, 2017.

"In Barcelona, Messi was injured for a month but Barcelona were still winning". But it's good news that he's ready.

"Job done, feels good". I think today is a very good example here of trying to change that mentality.

"We played really well. We try to win and be ready for Chelsea".

"Harry has fought a lot to get back as soon as possible, like another player would when he's suffered an injury, they always want to be back as soon as possible". I will decide tomorrow but surely he's good to be involved. The striker returned to full training this week and Pochettino has confirmed he'll be in the squad but it remains to be seen whether he'll be risked from the start.

"What Harry means for the team is a massive boost for us and it's fantastic news".

"We believe and never give up, we always try and we were always pushing". "His character is unbelievable".

The hosts have concerns in goal as Hugo Lloris faces a late test after missing the Swansea game through illness while Michel Vorm picked up a knee injury in that game so Pau Lopez is on stand-by to make his debut.

Spurs fans were quick to point out the apparent gaffe.

With the win Spurs temporarily cut the deficit atop the table to four points.

Any concerns that Pochettino's side might struggle to secure the win they needed disappeared in the 33rd minute when Alli capped a sweeping move with an outstanding finish.

This season has seen Kane in fine form again, his 19 league goals helping his club to a second consecutive season of challenging for the Premier League title.
