Mumbai: The rupee lost 13 paise against the dollar to 64.71 in early trade today on the Interbank Foreign Exchange due to appreciation of the U.S. currency overseas.

Dealers attributed the rupee's fall to dollar gains against other currencies overseas but a higher opening of the domestic equity market capped the fall.

The rupee on Wednesday staged a mild recovery after two sessions of losses and edged up 5 paise to end at 64.58 against dollar. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex added 85.82 or 0.29% at 29,422.39 with 20 components posting rise.

According to Nirmal Bang Commodities, USDINR is expected to trade with a sideways on Thursday.

Indian rupee has gained against United States dollar on Thursday. Its 52-week range was 64.16-68.86. "USDINR spot is likely to trade lower in Thursday's trading session".
