Travel and hospitality startup Stayzilla's co-founder Yogendra Vasupal on Tuesday got a conditional bail after being arrested in a complaint of cheating a Chennai-based advertising firm.

Interestingly, the counsellor for Jigsaw had pushed for mediation as a means to settle the issue but Vasupal's counsellors told the court firmly their client was not up for mediation. As per media reports, last a bail application was submitted by Vasupal's advocate to the Madras High Court, for his bail.

This comes after Vasupal's bail plea was dismissed twice - once by the principal session court, Chennai on March 28 and by a special magistrate court in Chennai on March 23.

According to Rupal, Justice Bhaskaran S, who presided over the hearing, said the case should be settled in a civil court as it concerns a dispute between two businessmen.

A counsellor for Vasupal said the money will not go to the de-facto complainant (Jigsaw) until the case is complete.

Multiple bail petitions filed by Vasupal post his arrest on March 13 had been rejected. One such vendor, Jigsaw, had lodged a complaint at the Mylapore police station in Chennai against both Vasupal and Singhi, accusing them of fraud. The night before his arrest, Vasupal had also put out a blog saying he was being harassed by his landlord and by Jig Saw Solutions. The amount was set after Jigsaw Advertising expressed doubts about Vasupal's ability to repay dues owed to the agency by Stayzilla.

According to the complainant, Stayzilla failed to make payments for advertising services rendered by him since February 2016 and defrauded him of Rs 1.69 crore.

Further details on the court bail order will be given tomorrow.
