Kim Jong-un defied the global community in 2016 with North Korea's fourth and fifth nuclear tests in a decade then began 2017 by claiming his nation was in the "last stage" of preparations to test-fire an inter-continental ballistic missile.

U.S. Ambassador Nikki Haley has a message for North Korea: "We're not trying to pick a fight so don't try and give us one". North Korean Dictator Kim Jong un is seen waving to the crowd during the festivities. A number of municipalities are testing community alarm systems and planning evacuation drills as concerns run high around USA military bases.

Amid the growing tensions between North Korea and the USA, the celebrations marking the 105 birthday of North Korea's founding father Kim Il-sung continue.

"They have a capability for long-range flight".

On Wednesday, China stopped short of criticising the U.S. but said such actions compromised peace in the region.

The language on North Korea's nuclear program was more straightforward.

Most experts believe the regime is still at least several years from that goal, but the North does have conventional weapons with a proven range to put USA troops and allies in the region at risk.

Many South Koreans are using those words to describe the president of their most important ally, rather than the leader of their archrival to the North. Which makes President Trump's remarks in a recent Fox News interview surprising: in the footage released on Tuesday, Mr Trump said President Bill Clinton had been "outplayed" by the same North Korean leader he is dealing with, which is interesting because Clinton dealt with Kim Jong-il, who died in 2011.

On Saturday, North Korea tried to test a missile, but botched the launch. An ICBM needs to travel through space carrying a warhead and then successfully re-enter the earth's atmosphere before hitting its target.

While potential sanctions are under review by Washington, the significant characterisitc of the Trump administration is that it's using China to solve the North Korea issue.

What is China's policy on North Korea's weapons?

On April 5, North Korea fired a ballistic missile off its east coast, following a March 6 firing of four ballistic missiles - three of them falling into Japan's exclusive economic zone.

The test firings and provocations by the North Korean regime have, not surprisingly, been accompanied by aggressive and threatening rhetoric from leader Kim Jong-un. In reality, the USS Vinson was on a training mission and heading in the opposite directions.
