Two seriously injured in Vancouver Island train derailment

WOSS, B.C. -Port McNeill RCMP confirmed two are dead after runaway rail cars loaded with logs crashed into a work crew in the tiny community of Woss on northern Vancouver Island. Tammy Douglas of Island District RCMP said in a release. "The safety and security of our staff and community is very important to us".

Western Forest Products uses the Englewood Railway to transport logs.

WorkSafeBC has dispatched officers to the scene.

The Western Forest Products train was carrying company personnel and lumber.

He says he originally feared his grandson was one of the injured. The company says it's fully co-operating with authorities.

BC Emergency Health Services says it transported one person by air ambulance and another by ground after the accident. The train is used for logging operations on the north Island.

The derailment happened shortly before 9 a.m.in the downtown core of the small community of Woss.

The investigation into the derailment is under investigation.
