Golden State Warriors vs. Portland Trail Blazers

Coming off a surprisingly competitive Game 1 win, the Golden State Warriors are looking to take a commanding 2-0 lead over the Portland Trail Blazers in Game 2 of their Western Conference first round series on Wednesday.

Durant missed Golden State's practice Tuesday because of a strained left calf and was listed as questionable for Wednesday's Game 2 against Portland, which will be playing without injured center Jusuf Nurkic. Warriors' coach Steve Kerr previously said that "it's not worth it".

The Warriors lead the best-of-seven series 1-0 after a 121-109 win in Game 1.

Three Warriors didn't play, including former MVP Kevin Durant, and the trio of Curry-Green-Thompson shot poorly from the field in Game 2 of the team's first-round matchup against the Blazers.

Stephen Curry scored 19 points on an average shooting night while JaVale McGee sparked the Warriors off the bench with 15 points. "I'm close, but I'm not going to play the second game", he said. The Warriors led by 25 and the game was over. "If you look at a guy and say, man, if we had Nurk, it would be different, we'd be down 20 by the time they turn their head back around". It seemed like a unusual comment, given Golden State's defensive performance that preceded it.

The 7-footer continued to give unbelievable effort around the rim on offense and defense, scoring 15 points on 7-of-7 shooting in 13 minutes - and he added 4 blocked shots. We feel like we have a very deep team, and we needed that tonight.

After he missed 19 games with a left knee injury sustained February 28 at Washington then returning for the final three regular-season contests, the Warriors certainly aren't going to take any risks with KD. Late in the second quarter, when the Blazers had cut their deficit to a single point, he confidently launched a 27-foot 3-pointer and made it.

Fortunately, it sounds like Durant also wants to keep the group together for another run at the title next season.

WHAT'S NEXT: The teams return to action Saturday night for Game 3 at Moda Center in Portland.

Need More winners against the spread?

The Warriors move to Portland for the next two games, and even if they don't have Durant for both of them, they should be favored to complete the sweep with the way the first two have gone. For a long Durant rest, for a romp through another West Coast team next round, and for a blemish-less postseason that would put this Golden State Warriors team in the record books as peerless as ever before. So when I can be here and we've got days in between and I can go and see my grandmother and go eat dinner with my family, it's a good time and it's good for me.

With Barnes possibly out with Durant the Warriors list of small forwards consist of McCaw and Iguodala and that's it. McCaw seems the most likely to take the last spot in the death lineup but that also allows Harkless or Aminu to use their size against the slight rookie and become actual scoring threats. Draymond Green had six points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists.

McGee has made many laugh during his National Basketball Association career because of some on-court follies, but his role with the Golden State Warriors has made him into a fan favorite, even in limited minutes. McGee has routinely been criticized for his lack of awareness throughout his career, but he had Ron Adams to thank for his improvement after the game.

INJURY UPDATE: Washington's Ian Mahinmi (left calf) is out.
