Altuve cranked his second homer of the year in the fifth inning and scored the six and final run of the game in the 10th as the Astros came back from a 4-0 first inning deficit to win 6-4 in 10 innings.

"That was a pretty rewarding win for this team", Astros manager A.J.Hinch said.

Facing recent call-up Ryan Garton (0-1) in his season debut in the 10th, Houston got a leadoff walk from Carlos Beltran, a bloop single from Jose Altuve and RBI singles from McCann and Gurriel.

Reliever Michael Feliz (1-0) pitched a ideal sixth to pick up the win for Houston, with Will Harris and Luke Gregerson adding scoreless innings.

The Astros tied it at 4 on pinch-hitter Evan Gattis' sacrifice fly off closer Alex Colome, who was bidding for a two-inning save, in the ninth.

"These guys are really good, and we've got a lot of them, which is a good feeling", Hinch said of his relievers. "With pitchers, you've got to pitch your way out of it".

OUR PICK: The Astros are just 10-24 in their last 34 games against the Rays and have lost eight of their last 10 games in Tampa.

Corey Dickerson, Logan Morrison and Evan Longoria hit solo homers in the first three innings off Mike Fiers as the Rays took a 3-1 lead.

Andriese has struggled with home runs - he had allowed 18 since the All-Star break past year coming in - and gave up a two-run homer to Carlos Correa (his second) in the third, then a solo shot to Altuve, who homered for the second day in a row after getting none in Houston's first 17 games.

Andriese has a 1-1 record and 5.13 ERA in his career against the Astros, taking the loss on a 13th-inning walk-off single in 2015 and winning last season despite allowing 12 baserunners, including four walks.

Home plate umpire Manny Gonzalez (79) watches as Houston Astros' Yuli Gurriel, center, scores past the tag of Tampa Bay Rays catcher Jesus Sucre, right, during the ninth inning of a baseball game, Sunday, April 23, 2017 in St. Petersburg, Fla.

"I got a four-run cushion, so that's the only thing on my mind", Andriese said. Snell has had early success allowing just five earned runs over 16 1/3 innings.

While he played 162 games previous year, Springer battled through a number of injuries in 2015, making this latest ailment a concern for the Astros. Kiermaier entered the game in the eighth as a defensive replacement in center and popped out in the ninth. Unfortunately, it has as the lone left-hander Xavier Cedeno was placed on the 10-day DL with left forearm tightness, and according to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times via Twitter Cedeno could be out for months and not weeks.

Correa went 1 for 5, and has one hit in 14 at-bats over four games after missing three with a bruised right hand.

Tonight, the team responded after allowing the go-ahead run to score by mounting a rally in the bottom of the inning scoring four times to take a 6-3 lead. Only one other Astros pitcher, RHP Roger Clemens in 2005, has done it.

Astros: RHP Charlie Morton (1-1) is to start the middle game of the three-game series Saturday night.

The Rays go on the road for eight games in nine days after Sunday's finale and have been a much different team on the road - 1-6 away vs. 9-3 at home.

Archer and Baltimore CF Adam Jones both played for the U.S.in the World Baseball Classic.
