It said organisations and individuals could place orders by phone or email to get a supply delivered to their doorstep, sidestepping any social taboos and quality issues.

However, in a one of its kind initiative AIDS Healthcare Foundation, a global non-profit organisation has launched a free condom store that aims to minimise the new cases of HIV/AIDS. Considering how India now has the world's third highest number of such cases - with 2.1 million people affected by the disease, according to UNAIDS Gap Report of 2016 - and how condoms are the most effective and the cheapest way to prevent HIV infection, it is a great move. The store is being set up by an global charity, AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), which said the initiative is one of its kind.

Called Love Condoms, this is also the first free condom store in the world.

The government already provides free condoms to high-risk groups such as sex workers, Males having Sex with Males (MSM) and transgenders. This is the first time free condoms will be made publicly available, DNA reports.

India's AIDS programme has largely been successful but in 2014 the central government cut its share of funding, leading to a shortage of condoms and anti-retroviral drugs.

Earlier this month, the Parliament passed a significant Bill that seeks to prevent and control the spread of HIV/AIDS, and to ensure that those living with the disease are not discriminated against.

"Imagine, one bill was on the table for 15 years", said Ford.

"Expressing her frustration over red-tapism in India, she said", We feel very frustrated. "So many people are dying because of lack of timely testing and treatment", Ford said.
