According to Adesina, "When there is ability and capacity to ensure security there is no need to worry, the north-east is under the effective control of the security agencies".

Rev Mark said he considered all 82 of the girls to be his daughters "because majority worship in my church".

A faction of Nigeria's main opposition, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have slammed the government for agreeing to swap suspected Boko Haram commanders for 82 abducted Chibok Girls.

Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, has explained why the 82 freed Chibok girls are looking fine and not like the first set released in October 2016.

Numerous kidnapped girls, most of whom were Christians, were forced to marry the Islamic extremists and became pregnant.

Switzerland and the International Committee of the Red Cross helped secure the 82 girls in "lengthy negotiations", the presidency said on its Twitter account.

Boko Haram, which past year pledged loyalty to Islamic State, has kidnapped hundreds of men, women and children in its campaign to carve out a medieval Islamist caliphate.

U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres welcomed the latest release and urged the global community to support Nigeria's government to work toward getting all Boko Haram victims home.

Are they back at home?

Girls who escaped Boko Haram shortly after the 2014 mass kidnapping said some of their classmates had died from illness.

Some parents did not live long enough to see their daughters released. "We hope the remaining girls will soon be released".

"I can not express in a few words how happy I am to welcome our dear girls back to freedom", Buhari said in a statement, pledging that the presidency would "personally supervise" authorities charged with ensuring the girls' "health, education, security and general well-being". "None, however, trounces the sanctity attached to human life and the consideration for the pains of the loved ones of those involved".
