In his first public comments since the New York Mets suspended him for three games, pitcher Matt Harvey apologized for what transpired over the weekend.

'First off, as I just did with my teammates and all the coaches, I apologized for my actions and I do apologize for my actions, ' said the laconic pitcher. The other side had Harvey texting the Mets (after the deadline to do so) on Saturday to say he had a migraine.

On Sunday the Mets suspended Harvey for three games without pay after he failed to show up for Saturday's game against the Marlins.

Harvey started the 2013 All-Star Game on his home mound at Citi Field, then missed the 2014 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery. He said he hadn't filed a grievance but said there is a possibility he will.

Based on the information given to Emily Smith and David K. Li of PageSix.com, Harvey was out until 4 a.m. the previous night, celebrating Cinco de Mayo.

RHP Matt Harvey will pen the latest chapter in his melodramatic Mets tenure Friday night, when he is scheduled to rejoin the rotation and start against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Harvey, 28, has always been a source of contention within the Mets' clubhouse, with some teammates bristling at his outsized "Dark Knight" persona. "All I can do it apologize for that, move forward, do everything I can to make sure that doesn't happen again, and that's what I'm going to do". There are things that I have realised in the last couple days that I need to be doing ... and one of those is putting myself in a better place to perform physically, and be accountable for my work. "They have my word on that".

Sources close to Harvey told FanRag Sports, which first reported the Mets' welfare check, that he came down with a bad headache after golfing Saturday morning and reached out to the team that afternoon to say he was ill and couldn't be at the park. I take full blame for that. "It was genuine. It was heartfelt".

Asked directly if he thinks Harvey has an alcohol problem, Collins said: "I'm not qualified to answer that". "I respect it. I thought it was the right thing to do". "He said he's got a feel for his off-speed pitches, so we'll find out when we get him out there".

"He needs to take it as pretty special", Collins said.

Sources said that Harvey had little chance with Lima - who was married to Serbian basketball player Marko Jaric for five years and who has been linked celebs such as rocker Lenny Kravitz and Yankees great Derek Jeter.

"There are things that I've realized in the last couple days that I need to be doing or should not be doing", Harvey said before NY hosted San Francisco.
