Speaking live on the Premier League Daily Show on Sky Sports on Wednesday, Cottee delivered a glowing verdict on the player's meteoric rise.

Indeed there is a general consensus that the manager, Mauricio Pochettino is the glue holding everything together, due to the players' admiration of him and if he were to jump ship that might lead to an exodus of talent exiting the club.

Tottenham bid farewell to White Hart Lane with an impressive win over Man Utd on Sunday, but it wasn't all smiles as Dele Alli gave reason for concern over his future.

The Dutchman has struggled for regular first-team action at White Hart Lane since his summer move from AZ.

"It's a good place to be, and with the manager we've got here I can't see many better places for me personally to improve".

It seems clear Alli could envisage himself playing overseas, but it would be a surprise if he departed Spurs this summer given they appear to be edging closer to a Premier League title win.

"We've got a very bright future, a great squad, a team that's hungry to win and to learn and to get better".

Tottenham travel to last year's champions Leicester City on Thursday and play their final game at already-relegated Hull City on May 21.

"Of course, there are going to be rumours over the summer, but I think I'd be very surprised if most of us aren't still here next season".

"Being in the title race for so long there was so many games where we were winning and then Chelsea were winning".

Pochettino has made Tottenham a force to be reckoned with in England's top flight ever since he took over at the North London club in July 2015.

'We all want to achieve stuff, ' the midfielder said.

Although Tottenham have a strong squad with superb players in every department, there is always room for improvement.

"Maybe some of the players we have an offer for and we decide to sell".

Pochettino said: "There is no buy-out clause in my contract, I will stay here next season".
