How it happened: The well-rested Predators, who had three more days off than the Ducks, had their legs moving early. Maybe not enough to truly cost them a game, but Nashville was clearly the fresher of the two teams after regulation and completely dominated Anaheim prior to the game-winning goal halfway into the extra frame.

Game one of the Western Conference final is in the books, and the lower seeded Nashville Predators pulled off a 3-2 overtime victory on the road on Friday night. That's what ultimately matters. Anaheim advanced out of the second round after defeating the Edmonton Oilers in Game 7 on Wednesday night, and faced a quick turnaround two nights later against a Nashville team that hadn't played since Sunday.

In total, Anaheim has held a lead for less than 24 minutes in the past 255 minutes of game time over its last five outings.

As noted above, the Predators are winning the shot battle against the Ducks so far.

Four days might not sound like much.

Nashville Predators' Filip Forsberg, right, celebrates after scoring against Anaheim Ducks' Antoine Vermette, center, and goalie John Gibson during the first period of Game 1 in the NHL hockey Stanley Cup Western Conference fi.

Neal said they knew going in that this would be a physical series so they tried to match Anaheim's toughness on Friday with their own.

As he had six games in where he collected multiple points.

The Predators come away with a crucial road win in this series, effectively stealing home-ice advantage from Anaheim. Anaheim has been locked into a scoring slugfest for so long between Calgary and Edmonton that Nashville will be a brutal change in pace for them. They swept the Chicago Blackhawks in the first round and then polished off a very good St. Louis Blues team.

Even in uncharted territory for this franchise, the Predators are still rolling through the Stanley Cup playoffs with their distinct combination of smash and flash. In overtime, it was right there for the taking.

He weathered a 13-1 shot edge by Nashville to start the game and it was 20-6 just before the Predators took a a 2-1 lead. "He made some really big stops in the third period to get us to overtime". "We'll turn the page on this one and get ourselves prepared for Sunday afternoon".

Anaheim can go punch-for-punch with Nashville's best players when guys like Getzlaf, Perry, and Lindholm are out there. Facing Anaheim in the opening round last season, Nashville took the first two games in Southern California, but needed to win a seventh game to advance. Converting on just one of those opportunities could have changed the outcome entirely.

Pearn said another factor that stuck out for him was back pressure by forwards on each team, a key reason why each has reached the Western Conference Final.

That will need to be fixed in a hurry. The Ducks were home for two of the three meetings.

Silfverberg scored again in Game 1 against the Predators, which gives him 35 points over his past 35 playoff games dating back to 2015. In fact, every single contest in this series is scheduled with just the one day break between them. Ideally, they'll be able to drag this series out and wear the Preds down. Following back-to-back delay of game penalties for flipping the puck over the glass, Anaheim was forced to survive a stretch of 1:27 when the Preds had a two-man advantage.

A violent head shot by Jared Boll on Nashville's Calle Jamkrok fired up the crowd, but Rinne dampened the enthusiasm, making a special save on Ryan Kesler from the slot.
