Senator Ron Wyden, the top Democrat on the tax-writing Finance Committee, said Wednesday that his party wants tax changes that benefit the middle class and not the wealthy, and for Republicans to agree to a bipartisan approach.

Republicans, though, rejected an effort by California Rep. Eric Swalwell, a Democrat from the San Francisco Bay area, to force consideration of an independent commission.

Given that Comey reportedly made a habit of taking notes, the committee also asked the FBI for any notes Comey took from interactions with former President Barack Obama, Attorney General Jeff Sessions, former Attorney General Loretta Lynch, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and former Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates, regarding the Clinton email investigation or Trump associates' alleged ties to Russian Federation.

Chaffetz, who until now has seemed reluctant to investigate the Trump administration, has already scheduled a hearing for Wednesday, May 24, at 9:30 am - the same day the committee is supposed to receive Comey's memos. The White House has refused to comment on whether such recordings were made.

Manafort was the chairman of the Trump campaign until he was sacked when news reports emerged about cash payments he had received from pro-Putin entities.

The Comey memo caused alarm on Capitol as well as Wall Street.

Rep. Jason Chaffetz, the Republican chair of the House Oversight Committee, is trying to get in touch with former FBI Director James Comey to testify in a public hearing as soon as next week.

Jeff Flake said of a special prosecutor.

Does this rise to the level of criminal obstruction of justice? "But that's not anyone's place to speculate, the alleged memo has not been released". John McCain of Arizona, the Republican chairman of the Armed Services Committee, says it's a "scandal" of Watergate proportions, and the only way to end it is to get out the full truth.

The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee invited Comey to testify next Wednesday.

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said 100 people at his department are working on an overhaul, and that the goal is to bring "meaningful relief" to the middle class and make American businesses competitive.

But Abraham added that he still stands behind Trump "100 percent", and said he is thrilled with Trump's addition of Neil Gorsuch to the U.S. Supreme Court, the House of Representatives' recent vote to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act and deregulation that he said has helped farmers and businesses in his district. "There's a whole litany of boxes that have to be checked, and a memo's just not going to reach that standard".

"Well, I respect the move, but the entire thing has been a witch hunt", Trump said, standing alongside Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos.

"It's imperative that we -- Congress, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the administration -- work to restore the public's trust", she said in a statement. Perhaps it wasn't obstruction at the time - merely enormously unwise and even more improper.

"We no longer live in a world where the USA can set a corporate tax rate without considering what our worldwide competition looks like", John Stephen, AT&T's chief financial officer, told the House Ways and Means Committee.
