Former The West Wing star Allison Janney and Chuck Lorre, the creator of her new TV show Mom, are throwing their support behind women's health organisation Planned Parenthood by spearheading a new fundraising campaign.

"Mom" co-star Allison Janney "has always been an active supporter of Planned Parenthood", Variety said, while Mr. Lorre "has a record of supporting public health organizations including the Venice Family Clinic, where he established the Robert Levine Family Health Center in his father's name". (The version of the American Health Care Act that passed in the House includes a provision that would slash funding for the organization.) They'll appear on CBS This Morning as part of their special Mom campaign, encouraging their fans to donate to the organization. TV sitcom "Mom" have chose to make a $250,000 donation to Planned Parenthood rather than mount an Emmy campaign this year.

Each year, television shows lobby to be nominated for an Emmy. "Our show is all about women and we don't shy away from dealing with all issues that affect women and families".

The Republican-led U.S. Senate is now considering legislation that would block low-income patients from going to Planned Parenthood for preventive care, like birth control and cancer screenings. Although a comedy, it nonetheless deals with a variety of heavy subjects including addiction and suicide.

"In Los Angeles County alone, we answer approximately 2,000 calls each day from people asking us for help", Planned Parenthood L.A. CEO Sue Dunlap said, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"When we discussed with Warner Brothers ... what our Emmy campaign might be", Lorre responded, "I blurted out 'Let's give the money to Planned Parenthood!' and they took me seriously". Janney won two consecutive Emmys for best supporting comedy actress on the show in 2014 and 2015. President Donald Trump allowed individual states to defund Planned Parenthood in April, and in May appointed an anti-abortion advocate to oversee low-income family planning programs. "Generous support from our community fuels this work, and we are honoured that the team behind Mom is launching this campaign at this critical time". Lorre also has a long record of supporting health care organizations, including establishing a family health center in his father's honor at the Venice Family Clinic. Faris is a champion of the Global Alliance to Prevent Premature and Stillbirth (GAPPS), a org devoted to preventing premature births and stillbirth.

Janney and her family are major supported of Planned Parenthood, and have been for generations.
