A tornado also ripped through a mobile home park near the northwestern Wisconsin city of Chetek, about 110 miles (180 kilometers) northeast of Minneapolis.

"We're pretty certain it's a tornado", said Bill Borghoff, lead meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

Gary Schulz, who owns a rental storage business near the Prairie Lake Estate Mobile Home Park, said a twister claimed his business eight years ago but spared it this time around. Throughout the night rescuers searched for survivors and victims, as the local sheriff said he had been told there were walls on top of people.

Fitzgerald had no information about the condition of the wounded, but said some elderly people were removed on stretchers.

Sheriff Fitzgerald said all of the residents of that park have now been accounted for.

The National Weather Service in Norman has not yet released information about the strength of the tornado, but tweeted early Wednesday that it will be surveying the damage. The mobile home park has been declared a total loss.

In western Oklahoma, a tornado ripped through Beckham County and killed one person.

A deadly tornado struck just five States in the Central United States, causing destruction of infrastructure, injury and loss of life.

Emergency management officials in Grant County reported a gust that hit 68 miles per hour in Cuba City, and wind felled tree branches in the Hazel Green area and debris was blowing across the highway in Ellenboro.

At about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Xcel Energy was reporting power outages impacting 3,357 customers in the Barron and Rusk county areas. Borghoff said it was a "long-track tornado", but an EF damage rating had not yet been determined.

Other tornadoes in western Oklahoma and the eastern Texas Panhandle have downed power lines and utility poles, but there were no immediate reports of injuries.

The neighborhood buzzed Wednesday with chain saws, generators and a visit from Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin, who called the damage "devastating". Fire officials say at least one person died and that dozens of homes have been destroyed or severely damaged.

Their home? Flattened. The SUV next to it? A nearby turkey farm was also destroyed.

One person died at the mobile home park, the Wisconsin Emergency Operations Center said in a statement late Tuesday.

The twister struck at a trailer park along Hwy.

The tornado near Chetek was the only one reported to the National Weather Service from Tuesday night's storms. And he said, to his knowledge, no injures have been reported outside of the trailer park area.
