Therefore, TPK and GIS are expected to significantly benefit from Apple's orders for OLED-based 3D Touch solution.

Due to the additional bonding of glass covers, overall processing cost for OLED-based 3D Touch solution is about 50% higher than that for the LCD-based one but the quotes for the client is about 150% higher. Whereas Apple now pays anywhere from $7-9 for the 3D Touch panels on existing iPhones, that figure will reportedly be bumped up to the $18-22 range for the iPhone 8. This is an important factor in building the new OLED-equipped iPhone since 3D Touch requires users to press down on the display.

By now, we have already accepted that there is a lot of truth to the rumors about a special anniversary iPhone 8 with an OLED display.

It's worth noting that the Digitimes report corroborates a previous report claiming that Apple's iPhone 8 will easily be the most expensive iPhone Apple has ever released, by a wide margin at that. To this point, Goldman Sachs analyst Simona Jankowski provided the following component cost breakdown for the iPhone 8 last week. With that in mind, it's not hard to imagine Apple slapping a price tag on the iPhone 8 that's beyond $1,000.

Still, it will be the first iPhone to feature a 10nm FinFET chip, coupled with support for wireless charging and an edge-to-edge OLED display, so there are a ton of things to look forward as far as the new device goes.

Since the iPhone 8 might be Apple's most expensive smartphone yet, the tech giant will still be offering more affordable options.

The drastic price increase is said to be the result of a more involved manufacturing process on account of the OLED display being more fragile than the LCD displays Apple now uses.

According to Morgan Stanley (via Seeking Alpha), Apple's supply chain expect the production of the new iPhone to start on schedule because the key components are going to be delivered on time.
