With tension rising, Predators host Ducks in Game 3

The Ducks won Games 3 and 4 of last year's first round 3-0 and 4-1, respectively, but failed when they came back and had the opportunity to close out that series in Game 6.

Nashville Predators goalie Pekka Rinne (35) blocks a shot from Anaheim Ducks center Ryan Getzlaf as Nashville Predators defenseman Mattias Ekholm looks on during the second period of Game 1 in the NHL hockey Stanley Cup Wester.

Almost a year after David Poile shocked the hockey world by acquiring P.K. Subban from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for Shea Weber, the Nashville Predators GM was named a finalist — along with Edmontons Peter Chiarelli and Ottawas Pierre Dorion — for the NHL general manager of the year award.

After finishing off St. Louis in the second round last weekend and resting while the Ducks labored through seven games against Edmonton, Nashville capitalized on its fresh legs to win a predictably physical game between two hard-hitting powers. "It's unbelievable. Our fans, they're awesome". They have to finish and ensure their frenetic energy actually gets the puck in the net. In fact, we should all celebrate when we get 5-3 instead of 3-2. "They came hard. They had their push. I thought we were ready for it".

"We didn't play anywhere near where we're capable of playing", Ducks coach Randy Carlyle said.

"So I just closed my eyes and shot it in there", Vatanen said with his usual Finnish deadpan delivery.

Yet, they still gave up the first goal, took the first penalty, surrendered the first power-play goal, took the second penalty, allowed the second goal and, 16 minutes in, had just two shots on goal. "In terms of how he plays a 200-foot game and it is a compliment when you get that kind of attention", Subban told the media.

"Being at home here, I think, is an advantage for us because of the environment and the atmosphere that the fans bring", coach Peter Laviolette said. "It's so tight. The scores at this time of the year generally are fairly low", he said.

Crosby in Control - Sidney Crosby couldn't help the Penguins scoring effort, but you know that he has to step up at some point if Pittsburgh is going to turn on its high-scoring mode.

The ocean continues to the third round of the playoffs for the Stanley Cup.

The Ducks tied the game at 7:21 of the third off a faceoff. Even though the Ducks have solved their regular season scoring problem, they still struggle on the power play.

Gibson was helpless on the game victor, which was set up when a shot by Ekholm hit teammate Viktor Arvidsson and caromed to Josi in the right circle.

John Gibson didn't look great in net for the Ducks, but with Rinne's performance it didn't matter much for Anaheim. I saw him on his back five, six times and he stood in and made the saves he's supposed to, and some that he shouldn't.

SSR's season nine is on, our next show is Wednesday at 7pm on 102.5 the Game.

The Ducks had been 5-0-0 in games they led after the second period, but the Predators didn't let them extend that streak.

"Gibby played well for us", Perry said. They're a good team. "Hopefully it opens up the ketchup bottle and we can get a few more", Vatanen said.

You just didn't expect it after the Predators had built a 2-0 lead in the first 18 minutes of Sunday's Game 2 of the Western Conference finals against the Ducks.
