Manchester United have stepped up their interest in Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak amid concerns that David De Gea will push through a summer move to Real Madrid, sources have told ESPN FC.

The Argentine global has impressed manager Jose Mourinho this season as a more than able deputy to De Gea - so much so that he is set to earn a new contract in the coming weeks.

De Gea has always been linked with a move to Real Madrid, but speculation has ramped up in recent weeks to suggest that this time round it could genuinely happen.

But that will be turned into a new three-year deal if he becomes the official number one.

Speaking to Sky Sports after his side's 0-0 draw against Southampton on Wednesday evening, Mourinho said that he thinks that De Gea will play for United in the "first match in pre-season against Los Angeles" in response to whether the 'keeper would play for the club again.

Within days of the move breaking down, De Gea committed his long term future to the club. "Hopefully we don't have problems with these two 'keepers".

Mourinho, it is believed, isn't prepared to promote Sergio Romero to the No1 slot and would prefer to splash out on a new goalkeeper.

The Slovenian shot-stopper is highly coveted in the Premier League, with Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United all linked with bids as they prepare for potential goalkeeping departures.

"Now with the confidence that Jose gives me and the confidence the players give me, the confidence for me is very important and I will try and do my best for the team".

With Atletli, he has garnered experience at an even higher level and played in last year's UEFA Champions League final.
