The SeaWorld Orlando expansion will replace Shamu's Happy Harbor play area and will be complete by fall 2022.

SeaWorld's parent company also said Thursday that it will open another Sesame Place theme park somewhere in the United States by 2021.

Following the opening of the second Sesame Place, SeaWorld will have the option to build additional Sesame Place theme parks.

SeaWorld Orlando now offers popular holiday Sesame Street shows during peak seasons.

SeaWorld Entertainment Inc. and the nonprofit behind Sesame Street announced Thursday that they are expanding their partnership to build another theme park by 2021, and possibly add more USA parks in the years beyond. The original Sesame Place theme park is located in Langhorne, Pennsylvania, and is based off the educational program Sesame Street.

The new park will open no later than mid-2021, but a location hasn't been determined, officials said.

SeaWorld Entertainment renewed a license agreement with Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit organization behind the show, extending their relationship through 2031. Sesame Street lands already are in SeaWorld's two Busch Gardens parks and two SeaWorld parks in San Diego and San Antonio.

For SeaWorld, the park expansion is a way to diversify its offerings as the company pulls back from the use of orcas that were the subject of intense protests by animal rights groups. The movie implied that killer whales become more aggressive in captivity.

SeaWorld extended its licensing agreement with Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit that controls the TV show featuring Elmo, Big Bird, Cookie Monster and Oscar the Grouch.

"We share Sesame's goal of educating and entertaining generations of children, and the extension of our partnership furthers SeaWorld's mission to provide guests with experiences that matter", SeaWorld CEO Joel Manby said in a statement.
