The 14-time grand slam champion put on another clay-court masterclass to defeat Robin Haase in the second round 6-1 6-4 6-3 at Roland Garros, where he is striving to become the first player in the Open Era to win the same major 10 times.

Nearly as many cameras were trained on the USA tennis star as were trained on Djokovic throughout the latter's 6-1 6-4 6-3 dismantling of Portugal's Joao Sousa.

The Spaniard will play Nikoloz Basilashvili of Georgia in round three.

"I felt better than in the first round, that's exactly what I wanted", he said. So a lot of things that I achieved are because he was there since I was three years old helping.

But the partnership with his uncle, one of the most successful and longest in tennis, will come to an end.

Moya, the 1998 Roland Garros champion and also a former World No 1, is part of Nadal's coaching team in Paris and is keen to keep expectations in check. I just know this is what he always taught me to be - a fighter, be a competitor, day in day out, so that's what I'm going to do. Tournament favourite Nadal too won in straight sets producing identical scoreline as Djokovic.

"In some important moments I was kind of hanging in there", said Djokovic.

Tsonga managed to save three match points, but the 91st-ranked Olivo converted the next one with a forehand cross-court victor to win 6-4 and advance to the second round. "Obviously, they know what it is like, they know what you need to be a champion". I am happy that he will be involved in the academy more than ever, that's good for kids, and that's all good for the academy.

"There is more difference between one and two than between nine and 10", Nadal, 57, said in an interview with a small group of reporters in the hospitality lounge of one of the French Open's sponsors, Lavazza coffee, at Roland Garros on Tuesday.

"I think I played a good match", said the fourth seed.

The 53rd-ranked Kontaveit beat Muguruza the last time they played, in a clay-court tournament in Stuttgart, Germany, in April.

American Steve Johnson, still grieving the recent death of his father, advanced to the third round by beating Borna Coric Croatia 6-2, 7-6 (8), 3-6, 7-6 (6) in a hard-fought emotional match. I mean, after the match, I didn t feel that bad as normally I probably do.

Toni Nadal first started coaching his nephew when he was four years old.

"Physically I'm okay, emotionally I'm a mess".

"I just knew he was looking down on me on that last point and gave me the strength to finish it off".
