The striker joined the Gunners from Deportivo La Coruna last summer for a reported £17m fee, but he failed to make an impact in Arsene Wenger's team.

But the forward found his chances severely limited, with Perez starting just twice in the Premier League in 2016-17.

The former Dynamo Kiev frontman made nine starts in total, coming off the bench 12 times throughout the course of the season, although injuries did not help his cause either.

But it hasn't gone to plan for the 28-year-old whose last appearance for the Gunners came on March 11 as a substitute against non-league Lincoln in the FA Cup.

However, Fernandez Lovelle shot down the idea of Sevilla as nothing more than a media-based option though they did meet with Sevilla when Monchi was still the club's sporting director.

"We have spoken with Arsenal and we have explained that we want to leave", Lovelle told reporters in Spain.

'Do you know anyone who is happy but has no opportunities?'

Arsene Wenger's own future at Arsenal was clarified earlier today when it was announced he had signed a new two-year deal.

"If I am the manager I would love to keep him but we have to sit down and see if he has a realistic chance to play", Wenger said.

"I feel a bit sorry for him".
