England will pick Jason Roy for their Champions Trophy opener against Bangladesh and for the remainder of the tournament too.

With a few players emerging from a disappointing Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign and injuries, defending champions India, who have unmatched pedigree on paper, are all set to defend their title in the ICC Champions Trophy to be held in England and Wales from June 1-18.

Several batsmen tried to hit their way out of trouble against Kagiso Rabada and Wayne Parnell despite accurate bowling from the new-ball duo made more risky by cloudy skies and a green-tinged pitch. Performance of the bowlers, in particular, has been impressive against both New Zealand and Bangladesh.

"I haven't seen a team win a global tournament playing defensively", said England coach Trevor Bayliss.

"From that point of view the message won't change", insisted the former Sri Lanka coach. The ground has not hosted a day ODI in the last four years, and the team batting first has averaged a meagre 213 on the last five occasions. He has one century and three fifties to his name in the tournament.

He has opened in limited overs cricket at county level, making 174 for Yorkshire against Durham this month.

"But for us cricketers, it is always about treating every game with the same kind of intensity and treat every opponent with the same amount of respect", said the Pune-born batsman on Monday to reporters in London.

Turning to Roy, he admitted: "You worry about anyone that is out of runs".

Among the eight teams vying for top honours in the ICC Champions Trophy starting Thursday, the side that has the best all-rounders will have the edge, India's Test wicketkeeper-batsman Wriddhiman Saha said here.

"Probably, since then, we've been on a huge upward curve", said Morgan, "and we've been tremendously lucky in the fact that we've had a group of players that have bought into a way of playing and enjoyed it, and executed extremely well".

"Take Jason Roy, struggling a little bit at the moment. He's been very good when he's come in, but one of the strongest parts of reinforcing the way we play, and the freedom, is backing that up with (consistent) selection".

Two days before, Union Sports Minister Vijay Goel had ruled out a bilateral cricket series between India and Pakistan, saying "sports and terrorism can not go hand in hand". He has got the most attractive seam position I have ever seen in worldwide cricket.

"Our long-term vision is to make cricket the world's favourite sport, and really there's only one way to achieve this - to keep the fans engaged and interested in the game".
