For many fans, though, not only is Wonder Woman the solo film for the character that they've been waiting their entire lives to see, but it's a chance for the DCEU to get back on track, after both Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad wound up being critical disappointments a year ago.

Lebanese authorities have a history of banning-or heavily editing-films they deem offensive. "One of the first indications that the ban was approved came from Lebanon's Grand Cinemas chain, which tweeted on Wednesday: "#WonderWoman has been banned in #Lebanon".

BEIRUT (AP) - A Lebanese security official says authorities have banned the new "Wonder Woman" movie following a campaign against its lead actress, who served in the Israeli army. Also, Gadot's other major films - "Fast & Furious 6" and "Furious 7", and "Triple 9" and "Knight & Day" - all played in Lebanon and were popular there. Wonder Woman accepted that the world wasn't like her, but that didn't mean she would stop fighting for it.

The Campaign to Boycott Supporters of Israel led a vocal push to ban "Wonder Woman", however, and in the end, was successful. Now that many positive reviews are coming in, I'm cautiously optimistic about Wonder Woman. The 2016 Egyptian film "The Preacher", a commentary on religion and power, was only released in Lebanon after it was edited to the satisfaction of the authorities.

"For me feminism is all about equality and freedom and choice", Gadot told Couric.

This Friday will be the first time the iconic DC superhero has had her own adventure on the big screen, following her introduction in "Batman v Superman", and of course the decades-old "Wonder Woman" TV series that starred Linda Carter as the eponymous hero.

FILE - In this May 23, 2017 file photo, actress Gal Gadot participates in the BUILD Speaker Series to discuss her film, "Wonder Woman" in NY. It's guaranteed to get you amped for the wild Themysciran ride all y'all are about to go on when the film hits theaters on June 2nd, 2017. "I opened my phone and I saw so many missed calls from my agent", she said. But in Israel serving is part of being an Israeli. Add on her great physicality and look and Gadot is actually pretty damn good in the role!
