Kei Nishikori admitted he couldn't remember last year's U.S. Open upset of Andy Murray after booking a quarterfinal rematch with the world No. 1 at Roland Garros on Monday.

Murray beat 53rd-ranked Karen Khachanov of Russian Federation 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 on Court Philippe Chatrier while Wawrinka got the better of World No.15 Gael Monfils 7-5, 7-6 (7), 6-2 on Monday.

Even so, Murray indicated more will be needed to record a second straight French Open semi-final victory over the red-hot Wawrinka, who has not lost a set in reaching the final four for the third straight year.

Paris: Nine-time champion Rafael Nadal and defending champion Novak Djokovic will set up a French Open semi-final blockbuster if they get through their last-eight clashes on Wednesday after rain caused their scheduled clashes to be cancelled on Tuesday.

Wawrinka kryptonite to confident Cilic - Marin Cilic has scarcely been tested in reaching the quarter-finals at Roland Garros for the first time, but he's rarely fared well against Stan Wawrinka. "A year ago he was also playing really well and I had to play one of my best matches on clay to beat him", Murray added. "I'm happy to be into the semi-finals again, it's not always been easy for me, but the past few years have been great".

Murray was just the steadier, although he also played some poor games, dropping serve twice in the third set - both times immediately after breaking Nishikori - and once to start the fourth.

Thiem reached the final four previous year.

Latvian teenager Jelena Ostapenko claimed a surprise place in the semi-finals after beating 11th seed Caroline Wozniacki 4-6 6-2 6-2. You can be worrying about technique, which is never good when you're playing matches.

Murray lost his cool, then fought back from 2-4 down in the decider to lead 5-4, but lost the last three games.

"The fourth, I think it was flawless tennis I played".

But I'm leaning with Murray because of his defense and the ability to force Wawrinka to hit extra balls.

That first win was against Andrey Kuznetsov, and further victories have followed against Martin Klizan, Juan Martin del Potro, Karen Khachanov and Kei Nishikori. But the fact that Thiem took that set and start to be a little bit more confidence and going a little bit more for his shot, he killed the match.

"I watched a little bit of the first set".

Nishikori said: "We have been playing so many times". "You know, I'm the odd one out in the semis, but hopefully I can keep it up". "Moves well, quick", said Murray. I mean, it's a joke how tough it is to win a slam. They got to 5-5 when three unforced errors allowed Murray to break but once again he failed to put a foot on the throat and handed it back in not dissimilar fashion.
