With the No. 18 pick in the 2017 MLB Draft, the Detroit Tigers have selected Florida Gators right-handed pitcher Alex Faedo.

Faedo, a junior at the University of Florida, is 7-2 with a 2.60 ERA in 17 starts this season. In 107 1/3 innings, he struck out 132 opponents, including nine in four innings of Saturday's NCAA Super Region game against Wake Forest.

"The Tigers are extremely excited to have drafted one of the most polished right-handed pitchers in all of college baseball", Tigers Director, Amateur Scouting Scott Pleis said.

Alex Faedo's professional prospects and draft stock have been steadily surging since he arrived on Florida's campus, and after three standout seasons with the Gators he cashed in Monday night. He was previously drafted by Detroit in 2014 out of high school, but did not sign.

The 2017 MLB First-Year Player Draft continues tonight with CB Lottery Round A, Round 2 and CB Lottery Round B. Rounds 3-10 will kick off on Tuesday at 1:05 p.m., and the draft will conclude on Wednesday at 12:05 p.m. with Rounds 11-40.
