The Paris climate accord was developed and backed by 195 countries with joint goals of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and combating climate change.

"This pact was signed by former President Obama without Congressional approval".

"The European Commission has told the United Kingdom to clean up its air. It's possible to have both by withdrawing from the Paris climate agreement".

Greenpeace's director in Spain Mario Rodriguez said last Thursday's announcement will require USA civil society and companies - as well as the rest of the world - to work harder to fight global warming.

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt touted U.S. emissions reductions over past years and said that despite withdrawing from the Paris accord, the Trump administration would continue to engage others, particularly developing nations, on the effort. Solar alone created 2 percent of all new jobs in 2016, yet the administration's proposed 2018 budget will decimate programs that support research and development of the advanced energy economy. And for the nations that committed themselves to that future, the Paris Agreement opened the floodgates for businesses, scientists and engineers to unleash high-tech, low-carbon investment and innovation on an unprecedented scale.

North Korea wasn't the only body politic to criticize Trump for his decision to pull out of the agreement.

The Senators also emphasize that remaining in the Paris agreement will lead to continuous litigation regarding air regulations.

But Hiatt said what is happening is the increased use of natural gas. "We understand that some officials inside your Administration want to remain in the Paris Agreement to keep a seat at the table so that the USA continues to have a voice in future discussions".

Here at home, cities, states and businesses and individuals are saying the same thing: Moving ahead with clean energy makes sense for our health, communities, and bottom line. "In fact, it's grown greater than that of many other states in the United States while it's had these ambitious climate policies in place", Horowitz said. India, for example, recently moved away from building new coal power plants with clean energy on track to surpass its own goals. "In fact, it was through an annual COP meeting in Paris that the Paris Agreement was signed".
