One man was pronounced dead at the scene on Seven Sisters Road just after midnight London time.

"We have been informed that a van has run over worshippers as they left #FinsburyPark Mosque". The attack comes during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, when people attend prayers at night.

The Muslim Council of Britain said the vehicle hit people as they were leaving the Finsbury Park Mosque, one of Britain's largest.

He said the driver had run out of the van but a group of people caught him and held him until police arrived.

Prime Minister Theresa May called the attack "every bit as sickening as those have come before" and said "evil of this kind will never succeed", after holding an emergency meeting to coordinate the government's response at 10 Downing Street.

Mohammed said that most of the victims he saw were men, but he also saw one old woman injured.

According to a statement from the Metropolitan Police, one person was arrested and "there are a number of casualties being worked on at the scene".

The London Ambulance Service said the injured are being taken to hospitals. Three Muslim extremists who carried out the attack were killed by police. Before that several pedestrians and a police officer were killed in a car-and-knife attack in London.

Its former imam Abu Hamza was jailed for life in NY on terrorism charges in 2015.

A new board of trustees and management took over in February 2005, a year after Abu Hamza was arrested by British police, since when attendance has greatly increased among worshippers from various communities, according to the mosque's website.

Monday's incident in London follows three Islamist attacks in Britain this year.

The incident occurred in Finsbury Park, a neighborhood in north London where many immigrants live.

On March 22, a 52-year-old Briton rammed a vehicle into a crowd of pedestrians on Westminster Bridge, fatally injuring four of them, and then stabbed a police officer to death before he was gunned down by police.

They killed eight people before being shot dead by police.
