A KOCHI-bound Jet Airways plane had to be diverted to Mumbai airport on Sunday after a baby was born on-board the flight at 35,000 feet.

Mumbai: A premature baby boy was born early on Sunday on a Jet Airways worldwide flight that was flying from Dammam in Saudi Arabia to Kochi. The flight landed at Kochi after a two-and-a-half-hour delay. "We commend the crew for their promptness that saw them translate their training into life-saving action". The cabin crew sought the help of a nurse who was also on the flight and the mother-to-be was moved into the first class area, where the delivery took place.

According to the officials, the plane was still over the Arabian Sea when the passenger went into labour. The airline's crew members, along with a trained paramedic who was traveling that day, provided immediate medical assistance. The airline then expressed its gratitude to Ms Wilson, the on board paramedic for her guidance in the procedure.
